The race in a glance

Brief guide for the competition

Start

The race has an "open" start on the area in front of the yellow main building on the campsite. The starting time for each class will be announced on the website as soon as possible after the registration is closed.

Map

A map is included in the entry fee and will be handed out in the secretariat in connection with the registration. Brief description of the trail and a map image is presented on the website. If you want a more detailed map than the one presented on the website you can buy the following maps: W1 Grövelsjön-Lofsdalen and Nordic Area snowmobile map, SOND = SkoterOmrådeNorraDalarna, Idre – Lofsdalen, published by Calazo and Utekartan Rogen – Grövelsjön.

Marking

The trail runs mainly along the marked snowmobile trails (  ) which will be supplemented by signs in accordance with the WSA race rules. Most signs have reflexes and warnings will be positioned at road crossings. We follow the WSA's rules for trail markings. For more information look at the WSA website, http://www.wsa-sleddog.com

Checkpoint

Along the trail is one checkpoint (the PD300 passes this twice). At the checkpoint water and straw will be available to all teams. It will even be possbile to leave tired,  injured or sick dogs at the checkpoint. Handlers are allowed to help to bring the dogs in and out of the checkpoint. All other work with the dogs, is the mushers responsibility.

Veterinary inspection

The pre-start veterinary inspection of the dogs takes place on Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th  of March at Särna campground. Those who starts on Tuesday, will be checked with priority on Monday. Registration for veterinary inspection and control of the mandatory equipment will take place after you have registrered in the secretariat. PD300 has a mandatory veterinary re-check in connection with the mandatorey six-hours rest and another veterinary re-check in connection with the mandatory four-hour rest. PD160 has a mandatory veterinary re-check at the checkpoint, but no mandatory rest.

Control of mandatory equipment

Control of the mandatory equipment is at Särna Camping on Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th  of March. Those who starts on Tuesday, will be controled with priority on Monday. The control is carried out by the race judges. Control of the mandatory equipment should be completed prior to the actual musher/handler meeting.

”Musher pass” and insurance

Swedish participants must have “green card” and a private liability insurance. (SDSF's racing license does not apply to Polardistans). Non-Swedish mushers must have a "musher pass" or   bring documentation of a privat liablity insurance covering this kind of sporting activity. (The documentation preferable written in English or German).

Registration form for the Swedish polardog working test

ALL mushers must submit a completed registration form for the Swedish polardog working test (Anmälan meritering), preferably filled in on a computer! All information on the form must be filled in correctly for ALL dogs in the team. The form must be signed by the musher. For ALL non-swedish registered dogs a readable copy of each dog’s pedigree has to be enclosed together with the form.

Veterinary handbook and dog tags

The veterinary handbook must be filled in properly and approved by the veterinarian before the inspection of the dogs can be done. The deposit fee for dog tags is 200 SEK per team.  The dog tags shall be fastened in each dog’s collar. The deposit is refunded upon return of the tags after completing the race.  If more than half of the dog tags are missing, the deposition will not be paid back.

Musher/handler meeting

The musher/handler meeting is mandatory for all mushers and handlers. Time for the musher/handler meeting will be published on the website.

Safety

A snowmobile will be stationed at the checkpoint and sent out to search if a team is using too long time between two checkpoints or if an accident is reported. The musher is responsible that a tired, sick or injured dog can be transported to the nearest checkpoint on a safe and secure manner in the sledge.

If a dog in a pulka team gets too tired, sick or injured it shall, if possible, be transported to the nearest checkpoint, road or another appropriate pick-up point in accordance with the race organizer advice. The race organizer is responsible for transporting dropped dog/s from a pulka team to the nearest checkpoint, start or finish area. All dropped dogs shall be picked up by the team’s handler/helper as soon as possible.

Accommodation and parking

At the start and finish area it is possible to set up the dogs. Car and trailer parking is possible in connection to Särna Camping at assigned areas. Accommodation is arranged by the participants themselves.
